It was James Madison - one of our Founding Fathers - who first saw the necessity of the separation of powers and wrote in the Federalist Papers, “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elected, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”
